Going 600 miles to look at a 1997 Parker 2520 with the 1997 225, EFI, Saltwater Mercury on it as was configured when new. Modified V. No bait well but has fresh water wash down as well as salt water wash down. What will the performance be with 6 adults, an ice box and fishing gear? Would like to cruise at least 22knots. It doesn't have full transom width extension so repower to twins would be more expensive than repower to a bigger engine, which would also be expensive. Maybe I should keep looking in an attempt to find a repowered single 250 on a Parker 2520, but with a 20,000 budget they are hard to find.

A 225hp will move it. See you 'other' post on almost the same subject.

Buy a good, sound older boat and take good care of her, then repower with a Suzuki DF250 in a few years and don't look back ... You'll save $5K or more over a re-power to a Yamaha and have a better engine as a result, and better performance too, with the 16" wheel she swings!

I have a very similar boat.
1996 MVSC hull (14* deadrise) with a 1997 Yamaha OX66 SWS II motor.

Cruises between 20 and 22 kts burning about 13 gph, and has seen a best of 34 kts @ WOT with full fuel and 4 people aboard.
That Merc should get similar performance.

I have read that Merc's 225 EFI dynos at 247 HP. So, if there's any truth to that, it will have no problem pushing a 2520.

That being said, it's also supposedly a very thirsty motor. I would not expect the same efficiency as Megabyte's 225 OX66.

Kev...still waiting for you to repower.

I am in no hurry.
I also keep on top of my maintenance, and she is running better now than she ever has.
I have zero complaints with this motor.

I agree with Kev, it'll be thirsty, but will move along nicely.
I have a notched 2520, with a Yam 2smoker 225 both Yr 1999.
This past Saturday I had calm enough waters to open her up.
3 adults, full tank of fuel hit 5500 rpms nicely trimmed up and 34 knots on the gps.
I didn't keep it there very long, just a few seconds. I do not have a fuel management gauge (and probably didn't want to see it then anyway)

About 26 gph at WOT according to my gage. :D

 good grief

Lucky for me, I run at WOT maybe 4 minutes at a time... tops. :D

Flew to Charlotte to look at the boat in question, with the 225. The husband had a stoke two years ago and the wife decided time to sell so she posted Craigslist. She hadn't posted any pictures but they said engine was on extension, and it was, an after the fact extension. I was told by the shop that maintained it that when they ordered the boat, it came thru with an open transom. They had to add a stub type extension to get the motor higher so it would work. Than they had to run a SS 2x2 bar across the transom to strengthen it. Did Parker ever sell an open transom boat with an extension on it?

Expensive lesson for me. Get pictures next time.

If you mean a notch transom with a narrow bracket...
No. Not that I have ever seen.
Would make little sense to do so.

Next time you are looking at a boat, ask the seller for the HIN.
If you have any questions about a boat you are looking at, call the factory at 252-728-5621 with the HIN in hand and ask.

May not help ... unless you also get pictures or details from the seller to identify 'changes' ...

In this case the HIN might have noted it was a "notched" or open transom which would have saved me the trip. If not a picture would have been worth a thousand word$$$. Thanks

Expensive yes... but consider it a life lesson.
We are here to help if we can.
Keep looking, and good luck.
