Best addition to a 2320 has been, auto trim tabs

I’m curious as to how the auto tabs would affect my autopilot. I’ve got the Simrad NAC-2 with Virtual Rudder Feedback rather than a rudder position indicator. So it constantly assesses the rate of turn and heading holding performance of the boat and makes engine corrections to maintain course. I...

1996 18 CC with original 115 Yamaha 2 stroke charging problems

Where are you measuring the voltage? A functioning alternator should be putting out from 13.8-14.5v. If you’re seeing 11v at the battery connections, you’re definitely not getting the charging voltage you should be.

Parker on the beach in Ca

That sucks. Hopefully the weather stays nice and calm while the tide comes in, and they can float her back out. If there’s any sort of surf action, she’s probably done for. Boats that end up broadside on the beach don’t usually have good prospects of survival.

    Caulking base of center console

I did the same on my 1700. Two small drain holes at the aft corners were left uncaulked so any water that gets inside the console can drain. No downside that I can see.

Charcoal Canister on fuel vent. - Out with it or not?

Trash it. It does nothing. Boat builders have to include it as installed equipment to comply with EPA regulations, same as diesel truck manufacturers had to install DPF systems that in many cases promptly got ripped out. Over a decade later, and they’re JUST starting to enforce that rule. I...

Has anyone added an aftermarket t-top?

In my neck of the woods we’re getting into “ratchet strap a Werner stepladder to your boat for a cobia tower” season. 😂

    Identify My 2520

Two strakes on the hull means deep vee, 21 degree deadrise. Full stop. Everything else is incidental. You have a deep vee hull.

    Identify My 2520

That is a Deep Vee, 21-degree deadrise. You can tell by the two lifting strakes visible on the painted portion of the hull. Dead giveaway. As far as I can tell, the “SL” distinction for the 2520s generally meant a boat with a port side bench seat (as opposed to pilot chairs and jump seats), a...

Seeking advice on repowering a 2001 2300 dvcc

Right. And since you have an agreed upon value policy, if you have a fire at the dock, or the boat sinks or gets wrecked by a hurricane, they’ll probably just pay you the agreed upon value with minimal fuss. You’re perfectly correct about that. Does your policy cover liability? Because THATS...

Seeking advice on repowering a 2001 2300 dvcc

This wasn’t meant to be a confrontational post dude. If you’re happy with and confident in your coverage, that’s all that matters. To answer your direct question, no, I do not have any personal experience with an insurance claim on an overpowered boat. Nor do I know anyone who does. I also...

Seeking advice on repowering a 2001 2300 dvcc

Only saying this to be helpful… do you have insurance on the boat, and do they know/are they ok with the fact that the boat is overpowered? Being overpowered as per the capacity plate (or the manufacturer’s design specifications; no, removing the plate is not an effective loophole) may make the...

    Marine Radio Parker 2530

I’ll disagree with most of what you’ve said. A handheld VHF, while cheaper, is limited to 5 watts of transmit power. A fixed mount VHF has up to 25 watts, which means that when paired with the proper antenna, it has an incredibly longer effective transmit range. Why have two radios? A couple...

    Marine Radio Parker 2530

I’m a fan of Icom products, but I can’t say I’ve had a problem with any of them. I tend to be a bit more suspicious of the ones marketed by the big names- Simrad, Garmin, Raymarine, etc. just because they feel like “add ons” to their product line, vs. Icom or Standard Horizon that have been...

    Marine Radio Parker 2530

I’ve got one where yours is, and the backup is mounted on the aft end of the console extension that the binnacle is mounted on. Nice and out of the way.

    How to add house battery

The easiest and best way is to install the BEP 717-140A-DVSR switch that has been referenced here many times. Then, choose an appropriately sized deep cycle battery to support your house electrical needs. Depending on what batteries you have installed now, you may be able to downsize your...

Seeking advice on repowering a 2001 2300 dvcc

Unless someone added a bracket to a 23SE, all the 2300s are DV hulls. Especially if you have two lifting strakes.

96 Parker 18 with 3 wire Fuel sending unit

The center (pink but very dirty) wire is your sender wire, which is going to your fuel gauge. The other two are grounds. If you look closely, one of them is going to the tab on the tank itself. I suspect the other one is probably going to a battery negative or a negative bus. To replace the...
