Bedding material for new deck hatch installation ?

plus 1 on the silicone advice from above. imo there are very few times when it should get even near a boat mostly because as said above, nothing sticks ever again where it has been unless it is literally ground down to raw material. the 1 exception to the rule is on new port lights I installed ...

    Electrical System Breakers- Why Two?

ok, couple of questions; where would the charge circuit come from? if it comes from the common on the main switch then would it not be the same to put the vsr between the house power leads and the forward battery? I only say this because I believe those existing cables a capable of the current...

    Electrical System Breakers- Why Two?

2530, I went back and looked at the buss bars again and they are small but stout w/ big input posts , so I suspect they would be closer to 100 amp than I remembered. also the feeds are at least #6 so parker did do a pretty good job keeping voltage drop to a minimum on a 40 amp circuit. more than...

    Electrical System Breakers- Why Two?

my 2012 2520xld is wired as noted here w/ 2 # 6 or 8 cables from 2- 40 amp breakers at the stern . I spent the time to trace everything and made a complete schematic. both circuits are fed from the common (output) of the main 1/2/both switch. from there they go to 2 separate buss bars behind...

    gelcoat info needed

As the title says I am looking for info on what the interior/ bilge gelcoat is on my 2012 2520 xld . I am doing some work and would like to match the off white / cream colored gelcoat. It's the stuff that is everywhere that is not a molded part , bilge , deck, interior of cabin ect. At this...

replacment water tank needed for 2520 xld

has anyone sourced a replacement fresh water tank that fits under the port jump seat? mine is a leaker due splits in 2 of the threaded ports . the oem (kracor #1-1448)seems to have been bought by yamaha and no longer makes water tanks. if you have been down this road any info appreciated .

Took her out for the first time today

the air releasing is from the fill port/ vent correct? if so this sounds like what I describe in post #59. when you go against full lock the pressure builds greatly and IF there is any thing that can flex in the system the vent will draw in air (or fluid if you have the fill bottle attached as...

Took her out for the first time today

408, I agree , if you buy look into other options . but if it was me I would try the test I mentioned above for the ram unless you have reason to believe it's bad.( the tip up and turn some and let rest test) also If it does not move during the shove test I don't believe it's bad. I for one will...

Took her out for the first time today

bummer! I don't know what to think now. an issue w/ the cylinder? is there any where the lines are elevated that might be trapping air? I don't think this is possible in these small lines but we have seen the air bubbles travel up displacing the fluid in the clear tube even when the fluid is not...

Took her out for the first time today

whatever works! I think either way could work but 408's method is the way seastar recommends . with 408's way the volume in the cylinder is at its minimum when that side is bled so much less area to trap air. this is the way I have always done it because it makes sense when u think about it ...

Took her out for the first time today

another observation from my bleeding I will throw out there for comment . I made a fill bottle with the top totally open so I can just add fluid as needed . the bleed fluid was just collected at the stern and dumped back into the open top bottle . at the end of my bleeding session I try to use...

thanks for the reply, sorry I did not make it clearer. my question is about the tee at the helm end. seems to me that just running the long tube from the stern tee into the fill bottle (up high) would do the same and not add air into the fill line. as you noted when air returns from the stern in...

agreed, I also have had other boat systems that did not have play that is why I question seastars info that some is ok or expected unless their system is inferior. I had a hynautics system on twin 235hp outboards in the 80's that was perfect. are you in agreement that your bleeding system is as...

408 , if you want to do more reading re. seastar there is a lot of info here; https://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/321796-seastar-steering-helm-pump-rebuild-pics-6.html within that info a rebuilder outlines a ram test that I just...

thanks for the update 408. I am sorry to hear you still have some play in the wheel. I just checked mine again and I have at least 2 inches both ways (4 total) at the outside of the wheel before the engine moves . interestingly if I move the wheel back and forth quickly it seems less . just does...

I will be waiting to hear the outcome w/ the new pump as I may go there also if that does it. if it was me I would maybe do a atf flush before disassembly to clean the rest of the system so as to not contaminate the virgin pump??

I don't think so, andy's and mine don't fwiw. anything "bouncy" in a hydrualic system sounds like air or??. You might call the tech line at seastar , they were fairly good on the phone although I now feel they may have been giving me a bit of CYA about the shove test. If yours and andy's don't...

Took her out for the first time today

thanks for the report, does the helm still bounce back? if so that sounds like an issue , not sure if it's "the issue" but it sounds wrong. good luck on the sea trial and let us know.

thanks for the re-try! this gives me hope that i ca get mine right one way or another. I bought the special thread sealing plugs for the seastar compression fittings so I can deadhead the pump and or the cylinder to try and determine where the issue is. These plugs seal off the hose fittings so...

Took her out for the first time today

Andy, just watched the bleed videos , thanks! are there any check valves in bleed lines? I have always questioned the horazonal fill line behind the dash. Seems to me a great place for air to be trapped and have seen air in that line move back and forth w/o coming to the top of the fill tube at...
