Well there is a complement to Murphy's Law and that is, Despite your worst efforts things will work out.
The original sender on our 2320 was acting up and finding the tank drawing online showing about 14" tank depth, we opted for the Moeller 13" sender.
Well, I figured with that huge triangular cross section, the reading on the fuel gauge would be tremendously skewed. I reckoned that the tank would show near full forever and then when it started to drop, one would have to start heading into the fuel dock and hope you made it.
Surprise!
It works out incredibly accurate and that is for a couple reasons.
The actual level at 3/4 is 77%
For 1/2 tank reading, you have 53%
At 1/4 tank, you have 29.8% of a tank left
at 0/4 on the gauge, that would leave you with about an inch of fuel on the bottom and I am not sure if the fuel pickup reaches that low.
Your helped by the fact that the pickup is not full depth and it there is more in the tank than it can read at 1/4 level. At the upper end, accuracy is helped by the top 3" is rectangular again providing more fuel in the tank than it can read.
