1801 sonar/gps question

new to the world of boat fishing and looking for some input about electronics. spent the last 15 years on the sand and my boys finaly talked me into a boat. purchased a 18' parker and plan on fishing it alot this year. keeping it in seaside park and will be fishing the bay and outside barnegat inlet weather permiting. boat came with lowrance m68c and using it as split screen just doesnt seem to cut it. wondering if i should keep it and get a fernco or other unit and have separate charter and sonar or update with new combo. any advice will be greatly apreciated!

Go to the Lowrance wed page and see if there is new software on that unit and install it. I bought a new unit in Dec. and found out there was new software and West Marine had not installed the new software into my unit and they did it for me. I had to buy a new SDC card to install the software and it cost $9.00 at Walmart.
