After 20 + Years I figured the original 150 hp v6 2stroke on the back of the Bad Betty had probably made its final turn.

I opted for a Yamaha F150 4stroke on her transom.

Just got 20 hours breaking her in and the numbers are

2000 rpm 8 knot trolling speed
4500 rpm 24 knot cruising speed
5200 rpm 29 knots WOT

Just about perfect. I reckon I could diddle around with the prop but who cares. She's about as fast as a man can stand to go in the ocean.

As far as fuel economy I'm hoping my typical day offshore (Hatteras/Oregon Inlet) burns somewhere around 30 gallons. The old motor burned around 40-45 on a normal offshore day. I may not be the fastest boat out there but I can afford to fish every pretty day that comes my way. When it snots up I just pull back on the throttle, head in the pilot house & watch for the sea buoy.

Should have done it a couple of years ago.

I am indeed a happy boy.

Sounds like a sweet deal!
I hope you get another 20+ happy years out of her.

BTW - What model is your Sou`wester?
I was thinking she might have been a 23 CC until you said "When it snots up I just pull back on the throttle, head in the pilot house & watch for the sea buoy.".

Althought you are within the WOT range (5000 to 6000), your motor will be much happier if you can get it closer to 6000 where it's not being luggeed. You'll probably get better speed an economy our of it as well.

Good luck. Sounds like a nice setup. :)

I think its about the flattest 25' hull parker ever built.
The 150 will push her fine.
But she won't take a big head sea.

Desn't matter much. When the seas get big I fish on bigger boats or just stay home & fish another day. Living on Hatteras Island has its benefits.

One day I'll buy another prop & get the rpm's up to 5800.
Right now I'm more interested in buying a few new jigging outfits.
A few of those Shimano butterfly jigs and I'd like to go find a few wayward blackfins or a grouper. Nothing like a little blackfin sashimi or a fish taco.

Great numbers. That is just proof that moderate power is all that is needed for the Mod Vs hulls to produce good numbers.

If you get the prop testing bug, I would bet that the 14pitch Enertia Prop would give you a good 2-3mph and alittle better fuel economy. Propping is the most important on heavy single engine boats.

Looking forward to pictures. :D
