Hello all!
I have a 2003 23’ SE with a redone transom (flat back) swim platform and jack plate. It has a 2009 Yamaha HPDI 200hp. I am lookinh to upgrade to a new Yamaha 300hp. I was surprised to see the max Hp rating of 225. I figure this is due to the age of the hull and what was available at that time with weight. My dealer said they will not re powers with anything larger than this due to their liability insurance. The stock weight is 2750 and I have a full tower. Is there a way to get an “updated” rating from Parker or another solution?
Thank you for the help!

Drew

To check, the installed boat factory capacity data plate states 225? Hp ?

You can check your state laws whether it is legal to exceed max hp rating.

It is doubtful a boat builder will perform a recertification. It is not in their best interest.

It might be the transom thickness and hull structural design.
One item is known. The factory used engineering factors in the determination.

Ask the dealer if it is their policy or a law.

You can always find another dealer or buy a motor and DIY install.

The rub, is your insurance company and if they will insure the boat with new power.

I have not seen a CG requirement against exceeding the hp rating but did not check the new regs.

Boat manufacturers work with organizations
Ike NEMA to build boats that meets a set of requirements.

Some insurance will green light the new motor when you call them. I would start with them first.

I have done what I'm fixing to tell you.

The very first thing you do is remove the factory plaques. The dealer must abide by them....If they are not there....Then there is no data.

Make it look like the spot never had one....Clean it up....fill hole and gellcoat if necessary.

Then go buy the motor and have it installed.

If you do all that stuff Brent said....your opening a can of worms....and they will Always defer to the plaque.
