I have an approx. 2003 200 HPDI on my 1994 2310DV WA. I bought a new home and had to leave the boat stored in my driveway over the past 5 years while I worked on my property, new family members and fuel prices sky rocketed. This year I made a promise to get the boat back on the water to start to make memories with my young sons.

My mechanic had my boat since Jan, No charge for winter storage, and told me he was working on it since May.
He said my engine had the High Pressure Fuel Pump deteriorate from salt water and due to the age of the engine,
NLA, no longer avail. He also said a newer pump from newer HPDI's that are avail will not work due to computer. He first stated to get a used 4 stoke, it would be cheaper and more reliable than fixing this engine.

My question is, I have found some used Yamaha and Honda 225/250 4 strokes on ebay for 5k-8k and does anyone think this is the way to go? I think I trust my mechanic as he was referred to me but not so sure.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi There is a place in Florida (Flagship Marine } that rebuilds HPress pumps, although I don' t know how the environment. makes them go bad. Have you seen this pump yourself ??? maybe it has disappeared. There are also many outboard salvage yards in the south where a replacement pump can be had. Did not know that the pump had any connection to the computer. If it were me I would check out all that is needed on my own and not rely on a mechanic who you really don't know anything about !!! That motor was very popular and one of the best Yamaha built, don't junk and run . Something is not passing my smell test :?:

Your mechanic is right... you should definitely junk the HPDI- send me the address I'll come junk it for you so you don't have to worry about it

kidding. Sounds like your guy is trying to sell you a motor. Fix that HPDI and run the piss out of it! 150/200 HPDI is a great motor.
