Anyone else here get one annually like I do?

I always end up getting one but it doesn't seem to matter. They like to board or check me at the ramps anyhow

I guess you just look like a criminal. :D  8)

I had USCGA do one for me years ago with hopes of avoiding being boarded. It doesn't hurt but I found that when they are in the mode of stopping the first one passing by, they are still going to board you. Right after I purchased my Parker on the second trip out last year I got boarded and they ripped me a new one. I deserved it though. I still had the MA numbers on it, couldn't find my fire extinguisher for about 5 minutes, never found my flares until afterwards and no throw cushion. I did have the new registration and the new numbers for the boat in a bag though. :D That helped some. Needless to say, they terminated my voyage and sent me packing back to the docks. I had to take photos of all the corrections and email them to the USCG in Norfolk. Maybe I should step up and get one of those safety checks?

I can say that since I have been getting a VSC, I have not been boarded.
They look at me, but they have always let me pass.

I've had the same inspector since 2003, and she always tells me... "I should just mail you the sticker because I know your stuff is always straight."
Funny, but she does run me through the inspection by the numbers every time. :D

Based on the pics of your boat that I've seen, I have no doubt you should pass with flying colors. A fine example of a well maintained vessel indeed.

Thank you sir.
Every year before my inspection, I go to the web site, and download the form. Then I do a self inspection.
I don't think it has changed since 2003.

Before the inspector arrives, I have all my stuff on deck and ready.
The actual inspection takes very little time because I know the regs by heart.

She will say, "fire extinguisher" and I'll tell her... "For this vessel, I'm only required to have one, but I have three", and then I show her.
"Bilge fan and flame arrestor?" 'Not required on an outboard equipped vessel.'
It's pretty much that way for each item. The rules change for a larger vessel, but for a 25 they are pretty easy.

I have much ground to cover before I have mine where I want her. The list is long, just on the safety side alone I can think of 5 or 6 things. Changing out my whip VHF antenna with a longer fiberglass one. Putting together a bail out bag. Buying a EPIRB, actually mounting my fire extinguisher, a through check of the condition of my thru hull and hoses, purchasing an emergency hull patching like a wax ring etc... Don't even get me started on cosmetic. I've only compounded and waxed below the rub rail last fall when purchased for example. I did use the Buff Magic by the way. The rest along with cleaning and sealing the non skid still needs to be done. Could actually do below the rail again with wax. Filters, oil, etc now due again. Then there is the wants like the battery charger and lots of other toys etc to numerous to mention. Rome wasn't built in a day as they say. I just wish I didn't have to drive 4+ hours to work on it. That's what makes it hard for me. I'll get there though. I'm sure there will be lots of request for advise along the way. Love CP!
