Good morning, my friends,
I purchased a Lewmar Profish 700 windlass with the 3 switch remote to install on the 2120. I am going to remove the current anchor locker hatch and replace it with encapsulated (2) 3/4 inch marine ply w/ 1808 on both sides, thicken epoxy with cabosil, fare and gelcoat to match. It will be permenantly glassed in where the current anchor locker hatch is located. The 3 inch rise will allow the windlass to pay out the rode which is attached to a Delta 14 pound anchor. The reason WHY I am mounting the windlass in the location is to have the rode drop DIRECTLY on top of the deepest part of the anchor locker opposed to on the very aft portion of the pulpit which would drop the rode to the forward part of the compartment. My end result will be like this and be a permanent part of the hull: (photo borrowed from another Parker member)




My question is THIS:
I am having a rode made by "Secosouth" and I need to know the MAXIMUM amount of rode I safely fit into the anchor locker without compromising the ability of the windlass to pay out rode and also retrieve and stack the pile neatly in the locker (attempting to mitigate binding up).
I would like to order 260 feet of 8 plait nylon 1/2 inch rope spliced to 25 feet of G4 chain. Would this fit in the current bow locker? I DID call Parker this morning, and Robyn was not able to answer my question, so she told me to send them an email and hopefully technical support can answer it later today. But, does anyone here have real world experience with this situation??

Typically when I'm recovering line, after about 200 ft or so I'll give the windlass a short rest and open the interior access hatch like you saw in the video and knock the pile over with my hand to give the remainder plenty of vertical space to fall. Once the chain enters the locker it will knock the pile down.

My 450' as we speak.......drying out after my snapper trip last Friday.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but your 2320 and my 2120 have the same locker capacity as they are identical from the cabin forward. I didn't want to get too greedy w/ the volume of rode in the locker, but if you get 450', then it's reasonable to interpret that I could do the same without the concern for binding up. Is this how you understand it as well??

Mounting the windlass there will save you from constantly going into the anchor locker to give it a sweep. You should be able to put 500' and 30' chain in there with no problem. Also go look on ebay. Secosouth has stuff on there that is about 200 dollars cheaper than ordering directly through their website. I saw 300, of 8 plaite with 20' of chain for 357.00

Yes Aaron, the anchor locker is identical between the two models. You will never get a hockle deploying 8 plait as long as it lays properly in the locker. When retrieving 8 plait it will coil darn near perfectly directly under the windlass in a 10-12" circular fashion. After coiling approx 200-250 ft or so it is near the the top of the locker. For the windlass to retrieve efficiently, you need some vertical space between the windlass and the top of the pile. I knock the pile down after a couple hundred ft to fill the anchor locker and to create vertical space.

What you see in the video is what 450 ft looks like using the method I describe.

I like what Bobby did w/ the 2530's windlass pod, and I'm trying to reproduce something similar. I appreciate all the input.
