2120 vs 2320

Apologies in advance for this question, if there already is a posting on it. I have a Parker 18' center console and am thinking about upgrading to a 2120 or 2320 and welcome input on how they compare (other than the obvious cost difference).
 
I fish both regularly, as I own a 2320, and my father inlaw owns a 2120. One difference would be the size of the cockpit, because the 2320 comes with a closed transom and the 2120 is not offered that way, the 2320 with full transom has a much larger cockpit area. I will say the 2120 is a little tank and I think rides better then the 2320. I know it is the obvious but I believe you get a lot more "boat" with the 2320 than the 2120 and its quite obvious when you see both.

The 2320 costs more initially, and presumably more to run as well. Any ideas on how much more?

Thats hard to figure because it varies with how you intend to use the boat. And the power supply you choose for each. Are you planning on buying brand new VS used etc....
I would say in general the cost to run a 21 VS a 23 would be a minimal margin

I tend to agree.

One thing that makes the 23 more expensive, beside the fact it is 2' longer than the 21, would be the closed transom and bracket.
2 extra feet, more fiberglass in the stern, the cost of the bracket, and the extra cost of the higher horsepower outboard on the 23.
All of that adds up.
 
I had negative 2 foot-itis. We found 2520 outside of Louisville KY but too much weight to pull with our 1500 series Suburban
So we waited and found a 2320 in Sarasota Florida, bought her and took it home on the ICW...fun trip..... always felt you can't always find what you want and having the compromise gene helps a lot

Well, I came "this close" to considering putting an offer on a 2120 2-weeks ago (to replace my 'big girl' 2520) and I will say as much as I wanted to down-size, I was stunned that the V-berth of the 21' W/A was not only as big, but LONGER (by 4" in fact) than that of my 25'.

And yet, the usuable cockpit was only 5' long, whereas she's 11' long on my 25'. Granted the majority of the difference is the notch-transom vs the bracketed hull, but a good 2' is missing somewhere. So how long is the useable cockpit on a 21' cabin model?

All that leads me to believe that a deep-V 23' cabin model, that is trailerable, should be the #1 selling 'cabin' model. I wonder if they are?
 
I don't know all the models and how they are laid out.

BUT....In the interior department....I like the full bulkhead separation between the cuddy and pilothouse.

It gives privacy for the girls to pee and I always felt like junk would just slide around without the bulkhead.


This style I do NOT care for. But apparently it is that way on both models your interested in.

Im with you Wart. When I was looking for my 2320 I knew I did not want the new style 2320's. I dont understand why they did away with the bulk head up at the helm. The older style also has a lot bigger V berth as well. Im 6'3 and I can lay fully down in my V berth thats not the case with the new style. The last thing is the PH when standing in the cock pit the PH is very short, the new style you step further down into the PH where as the old style you dont step down as far and the PH is a lot taller from the cock pit.

Having a 2120 I'll share my thoughts. The lack of a bulkhead on the current 21's and 23's I think is better. I didn't initially think so but now, after using it for overnights, I like the openness of it. Also, at 6'0" I have to sleep at an angle with my toes actually going into that area behind the bench seat a little. My 12 year old on the other side fits fine. If it had a bulkhead, sleeping space would be an issue. Maybe why they deleted it?? Back deck space on the 2120 is less than the 2320 as mentioned and the notched transom etc is not as good as the 2320 closed one for sure, IMO. Not that I have had any issues with the notched 2120 but because of the space and the live well/fish locker on the 2320 that I personally like. Since I have the F225, running cost I think between the 2 would be nominal. Storage cost??? Depending on your situation I guess. My reason for the 2120 vs the 2320 was simply down to towing weight and acquisition cost. I'm towing mine less than a mile from a storage yard to the ramp with a 4 cylinder Chevy Equinox. Yes it works, barely, and yes I get lots of looks of "no way" at the ramp. If both of my restrictions were not a factor, then I would have a 2320 hands down for the closed transom and extra deck space.
 
The main reason for no bulkhead in new boats is cost. Just like most items at the supermarket, the products got smaller while the price increased or stay the same. It definitely made it look more like a plain skiff as opposed the finished look of the old school bulkhead.
