It has been a brutal winter so far.
This is what the Chesapeake Bay looked like this morning, 1 mile from my house.

We got the same here on Long Island Sound. First 15 feet of shoreline in front of my house is an ice slurry. Ive been living here all my life never seen it this bad.

That photo was taken on the shore of Sandy Point State Park, the venue for todays Polar Bear Plunge.
The Plunge was cancelled today due to ice, 33 degree water, and winds blowing 27 knots (sustained).
The only thing keeping the Bay open right now is the commercial ship traffic.

Check out the video...

Capt. Kevin nice shot. I have my ice eaters working overtime about 20 miles north of you in edgemere, near millers island

Looks like your ice-eaters are keeping up.
That's a good thing.

That ice looks mean - I would love to see what it looks like from the bridge - may need to take a trip to KI...

The Bodkin is froze over - all but where the ice eaters are deployed..

It appears as if Baltimore Harbor is frozen over as well.
