I've been lurking here for a good while, and learning, and looking at pictures (I'm stupid, pictures help me).

I'm looking to set up the "perfect boat". But I can't afford to buy it, I'm hoping to build it. So I'm looking for a 2520 XLD hull. I would like to feel good that the hull hasn't been too abused and has good water tight integrity. Beyond that -- I'll handle it (errrr, I mean that I'll do the work and hopefully you guys will guide me through it). I do not mind hard work!!!

Here are some of the things that I'll ultimately be adding, so if it already has any of these then that would be awesome. But it has to stay fairly inexpensive so I can actually DO this thing.

Bracket
Twin 200's (thought about 150's but i'm planning on adding a tower, moderate size bait tank and small/medium fuel tank fwd --- and although the 350 is sexy i'm not sure that I'd "save money" going with a single in this case -- i don't need a 40 kt boat ... but i sure would like a 30+ kt boat when i get that wild hair once in a while...)
Tower w station
Fresh water
Sunshade off tower
No Back (like GrouperJims)
3rd station (2nd, whatever) behind the PH (this is negotiable but i think it would work well for the blue water spearfishing i do as well as trolling for tuna & dolphin -- of my desires this is one that could wait a while i think...)
Livewell
extra fuel tank forward under deck in cabin
speargun racks

I know, I am looking at a $90k + boat. But I genuinely just can't do that right now, plus I have a mild to severe addiction to projects. I am active duty and a single dad for two little girls, so if anyone is thinking of ripping me off (not likely as this site seems to be a cross-section of a great group of folks) -- but anyway -- that would be super bad karma and whatnot.

Uses of boat: spearing and fishing in the keys (tuna, dolphin, wahoo, sail, marlin, not much reef fishing - i just shoot those), diving w/ and w/o bubbles, occassional drinking and sand-barring (is that a word?), pulling kids on tubes, shrimping, lobstering, overnighting, occasional trips to lower keys (marquesas and ft jeff), occasional trips to cay sal and the rest of the bahamas, stone crab trap checking, many many trips to the hump(s) staying DRY and WARM! Oh - I live in Islamorada (upper florida keys). Plan is to keep it in canal behind my house -- I do not have davits but you folks could convince me I need them. I boat a minimum of two days a week, and every day when I can.

Between here and THT I actually have a compendium of different ideas that I think are awesome - from cool ways to store things to genius ideas about how to set up the console layout. But now I think I'm ready to take the plunge and start this thing. Step #1: find something to start with.

My resources:
- 10-15k in cash
- One 2005 Robalo 230r that is totally decked out to fish and dive (including wireless autopilot and 300 hp yami) - the dudes at AnglersEdge seem to thing I can get $40k for it but in this market who knows... it's at the shop right now getting a few cosmetic spidercracks taken care of so I can put it on the market.
- could offer standing offer of free dockage in upper florida keys essentially forever up to 30' boat
- could offer free fishing essentially forever (as long as i am stateside and avail)
- i have lots of energy
- i'm stupid enough to take on projects like this (did i mention i'm building my own house in the upper keys at this moment? with a guest apartment...)

Ok -- so fire away -- anything is fair game. What I'm looking for is wrong for what I want to do with it? There's no way I'm going to be able to pull this off? Features you really think I should add? I've picked the wrong hull? Operating costs will be ridiculously expensive? Seriously -- i have thick skin and I'd rather hear it from you guys than figure it out a year from now.

Thoughts, ideas, opinions or smart remarks all appreciated.
