I'm looking at a Parker with a 260 hp Mercruiser with approximately 700 hours. In general, about how many hours will this engine run until requiring a rebuild, and approximately how much does a rebuild cost?

Thanks

Most gas inboards are good for 1500 to 2000 hours depending on maintenance. That being said, Mercruisers aren't rated as some of the best. The no. 1 spot goes to Crusader and no. 2 is Marine Power if I'm not mistaken.

David Pascoe does an excellent write-up on gas inboards...

Depends on whether you have fresh water cooling. If raw water cooling depends on the age of the engine too since it corrodes running or sitting.

If fresh water, you change manifolds and risers, and enging keeps going.
