Here's the link to the video. Extremely moving and very well done. In the modern world, with maritime commerce so removed from the everyday life of most people, it's easy to forget just how vital a strong maritime community is in times of peace just as well as times of war and emergency.

I was working in Manhattan that day and made it on the subway back to port authority just as they shut everything down. Next thought was that no matter what gets opened up the water is going to be the best way to get back to NJ. I walked back to the 39th st pier on the east river where the Fast Ferry drops off and wound up being the third person in line. Waited an hour or so and it was great to see the Atlantic Highlands Fast Ferry pulling up. They just counted heads and loaded us up.

We were one of the first boats off the island and you could not even see the tip of manhattan as we went around it from the smoke and dust. There was quite a set up when we pulled into the Highlands too -emergency personnel, ambulances etc. The best site to see was my dad waiting to pick me up.
