Thinking of relocating my nav lights when I add an anchor roller...

Wanting to get them up high and beef them up to 3nm LED lights. Have any of you guys moved your navigation lights to the house? I want to be seen!!! Found an old thread where someone mentioned it but didn't go into detail.

I've never seen 3NM lights.

Yeah looks like you're right Warthog... I was seeing 3nm all around lights. I like the led bulb option but also still interested in moving them up to the house roof.

Thanks for the reply!

Well.....You'll want to mount them to the horizontal surface, as you don't want the light coming near your eyes.

On a different boat........ Small CC skiff....... I've seen where they mounted them on the sides of the console.

This did 2 things.

1] From a distance seeing the boat.....It looked a LOT farther away. This is due to the relationship of the lights and you thought it was a bigger boat.

2] It thru a light of light in the cockpit to blind you.

I didn't like it at all. I spend a lot of time on the water at night with my Flounder boat.

Id like to mount mine on the side of the pilot house once I tackle the project of adding a pulpit.
If you choose that location post pics of the project.

I bought a bow sprit from Parker and they supplied nice little LED replacement running lights in the package. they were deck mount, so i just installed them aft of the old cleats on the toerail. they were still within the rope locker so wiring them was simple.

I would stay away from the sides of the pilot house, at night the light will reflect of the washboards and blind you or make your night vision diminished.

The stock location from parker is piss poor in my opinion, I would like to change to the LED Megabyte put on to see if it improves but haven't gotten to that yet. The location on Wart's boat looks like an improvement too.

Another option could be on top of the pilot house so the light is shielded from the deck but easy to see from afar or onto the radar tower some how.

I replaced my incandescent nav lights with LED's back when the 2nm LED lights were first introduced.
Mine were placed in the 'factory' location as seen in the photo below.

I would advise caution if you decide to place the lights on the house, for the reasons already stated.
2nm LED's are very bright, and if placed incorrectly, you might not like the 'glare' when running at night.

Over time, I have replaced all of my lighting with LED's, and even added LED's under my washboards to light my deck at night.

Kev, do you have or can you snap a pic of your forward lights when on at night from the helm and maybe the glare pattern on the deck/ toe rails?

The non LED ones like I have are not that bad, but on a dark night they can rob some visibility.

Don't have a photo, but I can do that once I get her back in the slip.
She is still on land right now awaiting bottom paint.

FWIW I ran some test wires before my install and had tried them up on the sides of the pilot house and would strongly NOT recommend mounting them up there! The glare off the rails - tested at night whilst on the water - was highly distracting!

Kevin put his right where I had put mine, same LEDs too, up forward and under the rails to eliminate as much glare as possible.

... posted during lunch ...
