Well, this is the first winter I had the boat hauled/stored at home.
Unfortunately, the driveway has a HUGE oak tree along side it. My buddy said his gets filthy sitting under the tree. I have a cover on it, and had planned on keeping it covered until right before I have it splashed again, doing as much as I could with it covered, etc. Well, this huge snowstorm caused a boat "wardrobe malfunction" and the cover tore, needs to be repaired. If I uncover it now, get it spruced up and waxed over the next say 6 weeks, will the rain/tree factor during the week ruin anywork I do on the weekends? The boat will be long gone before the thing leafs out, just wondering how any rain dripping off the tree would cause staining.
Thoughts?

not really sure about stains either. Could a plastic tarp get you by for now?

Sap could run in the spring(think maple trees and syrup) oaks could have darker sap that could drip out and I think it would stain. Alot of what if's I guess. Mines under a Maple no probelm except tree worm poop in late spring. It just washes off.

Not sure about a plastic tarp, it's a second home and no one is there during the week. It'd prob end up in my neighbors yard with a strong enough wind. The tree is a white oak and never really leafs out until early May and I'll be in 1st or 2nd week of April at the latest.
There are no leaves left on it, although there is also a pine tree close enough to drop needles also. May have to take a chance and see what happens, then re-evaluate next year.
I could have waxed 90% of it with the cover on, just folding it back, etc. then dropping it back down. That 35+-" of snow, from thaw/re-freeze formed a big pile of ice in front of the OB and tore the cover up at the rocket launcher it got so heavy. Snapped my VHF antenna also which I had folded down, the cover just weighed so much, snapped the thing right into splinters.

If the weather warms up
And the snow melts all off
I would remove it completely
Because a improperly rapped tarp weighted down with even maybe more snow
Is going to do more damage then oak or pine stains or more snow just sitting on the boat
Those will all wash of with cleaner and Hot Water
I have my boat under 4 pines and two oaks
Its covered but I still get lots of needles and junk blown in
And it does stain till I wash it off with a good cleaner and a bucket of HOT water
I would be afraid of compounding the damage with more heavy snow on the tarp

My boat live under a giant oak nearly all year. No way can I leave it uncovered for more than a few hours. Everything that falls from the tree leaves a stain when its wet. During warmer months the sap rains down and makes a mess. Tarp it and have bracing for snow.

I have mine under an oak in the back yard and it gets pretty messed up from the oak pollen in April/May.

I don't cover it and clean it with a mild hot bleach solution and biodegradable soap right before I launch it for the season.

I'm in the power washing buisness and have hot water machines with detergent injection so it's about a 20 minute process for me.

Never had a problem with any of the boats I've owned using this method.

I saw Megabyte's boat stored under a tree for several years before he bought it. You should have seen that mess!!!

Looks like more snow is on it's way the next couple of days.

It's been many years since I've seen this much snow "Down The Shore."
