I have one of these, nice little security device for those days out there alone. I don't remember what I paid for it but it wasn't an outrageous price. I am going to get the passanger one for my dog just in case he decides to go swimming without telling me.

i dont know much about the system, so this is a legitimate question. would the system shut off infinitely if the dog were to jump overboard? or is there a way to restart th engine? the reason i ask is that if the engine shuts off, it could make getting your little buddy back on board more difficult, not to mention if he decides to take a dip at an inopportune moment (read inlet, busy channel, etc.). fill me in? :?

I believe the system has an override for just such a situation.

There are 2 different types of Tethers (I quess that's what they are called) one for the captain which stops the engine and sets off the alarm. The second one is white instead of yellow and it just sets the alarm off, that way you don't have to try to start the engine. The spare Tethers cost about $60.00 each

I've thought about it, but having the sport cabin model and having never left the helm while in gear in 11 years, I'm not sure whether it'd benefit me. Any comments/help? I can understand a CC captain having one though.

ah, i see. thank you! :D

So, found a serious problem with this thing..

If the capt falls overboard... the engine shuts off. How is anyone else on the boat supposed to drive back and save the capt? The heck with him... let him swim back to the boat... hmm

You would just disconnect it from the emergency switch and start the engine, picking up the captain is up to you whether or not you want to. Now my question is, how many beers did it take for the captain to leave the helm and fall overboard?

I am on my boat alone most of the time. I got in on that group buy, too. Just got mine yesterday.

What was the price??

I have one of these units since I usually fish by myself along with my dog.

When you're trolling you need to leave the helm to put out rods and bring in fish. I wear a Mustang auto-inflate vest and the dog wears his CABELAS vest.

The AutoTeather consists of (2) components – a receiver and transmitter(s). The unit has a motorized clip attached to the receiver. A push pin in the clip extends when activated and "pushes" the clip from the spring loaded kill switch pin.

The operator and passenger transmitters perform different functions. The operator transmitter will activate the kill switch to turn the engine off and at the same time, activate an audible alarm. The passenger transmitter only activates the alarm. Easy to tell which is the operator and passenger transmitter because they’re different colors.

The transmitters are pretty small. I put mine in my pants pocket and the dog’s gets put in a zipped pocket on his vest.

The system is activated by moving the transmitters a predetermined distance from the receiver, or by immersion in water.

So far – neither of us have “left the boat” while on the water.

They do work by distance. I sometimes forget to remove the dog’s transmitter when we get back to the dock. The alarm sounds when he gets away from the slip to do his business. I have come back to the boat after a walk to the car and found the kill switch activated and alarm sounding (I forgot to remove the transmitter from my pocket).

I got mine at BOE. Decent price – don’t recall how much.
