Hi All,
I just purchased an 1801. FINALLY! I would like to add an after-markert fiberglass bait tank. I would like to have the 1 1/4" drain go down thru the deck then out the transom, but it seems like even if I keep the hole as close up to the deck (under) as possible, it is still at or just below the water-line. My other installs have been 1" + above. Am I going to have an issue with draining or water coming in?
Thanks for the help!

Brian

That is no problem, just make sure you seal your 1.25" fitting really well in your transom. The only issue that bothered me was the drain hole through the floor. The drain hole in the floor will most likely be above your fuel tank. You will need to be really thoughtful in this to ensure no water will end up in your tank box. Take a look at what I did to ensure this would not happen on the 21 Parker Rehab sticky under projects.

THANKS for the help. Thats a great point about the fuel tank. I am going to make sure everything is double clamped on the hoses and I will seal the bottom of the tank at the deck!

I have an 1801 and am considering adding a bait tank and RW washdown.

What tank did you decide on - capacity? How will you mount it?

Steve,
I still haven't decided on capacity. It's probably going to be a fiberglass tank from a local company here in Orange County. I am going back/forth between keeping the helm chairs or going to a leaning post (so I can slide the tank a little more forward). I also looked into getting a factory seat/tank combo from West Coast Marine, just have to figure out the shipping from East Coast. I kind of like the bench seat combo (bait capacity is limited though). Mine is a 1998 and just came with helm seats.

Anyone out there have an opinion of the factory bait tank/bench seat combo???

Thanks for your help!
Brian

am considering a two scoop (30 gallon) live bait tank in my 1801. There seem to be differences between West Coast bait tanks and East Coast bait tanks. I believe that the West Coast tanks are generally better at circulating water at all levels of the tank and keep bait alive longer. This may be due to the types of live bait generally used on the West Coast - anchovies, mackerel, sardines and squid.

The people in SoCal use live bait a lot... I trust their experience.

I ended up buying an Offshore Marine Products oval fiberglass bait tank - 30 gallons. I have designed a leaning post and storage/rod holder component to add to this tank. We will remove the Parker pilot seat/cooler combo and install the tank and leaning post at that position. There is not a lot of room to waste in an 1801 - this design takes up about the same space as the original Parker pilot seat.

I begin working on the boat tomorrow (bait tank, Minn Kota ST80, RW washdown,,, etc.) and will post some pictures.

Looking forward to that project post! 8)

I have a 2110 and the previous owner mounted a bait tank forward of the engine and it is supplied by the wash down. A hose is run back to the transom opening and the tank circulates. When the day is done I just pull a plug in the bottom and it drains on the deck and overboard. I plan on putting a Y in place this year so I can rinse the fish slime of the deck when we aren't using the tank.
