I would like to install a removable bait well. I'm looking at the 22 gallon Kodiak and will be using it on both of my boats. My question is if anyone has any experience with using a bait well pump to fill and add fresh water to the bait well. I would like to mount the pump on the tank and put a hose or pipe in to the water. I am wondering how far up these pumps will draw water. I see a model that mounts on a transom but then I would need one for each boat.

I may want to mount the tank on my ladder platform on my Parker and inside the boat on my skiff.

Anyone have one of these on their boat?

Livewell pumps are impeller driven so they need to be primed before they work. You can manually fill the livewell which would prime the pump and it will work to a point. The higher the pump/hose is to the water line, the less it will pump--big wave might cause it to lose prime. You can also not run the pump while underway. You also have to deal with alligator clips to connect to the battery--it all become a big hassle.

Pumps are cheap around $20-$40. The proper way to do it is to install a pump T-ing off the raw water pickup on the Parker and install a transom mounted pump on the skiff. Then all you have to do is connect the water intake hose to the livewell on either boat.

Thanks Phil. That sound like a lot less work and a better solution.
