Baitwell Pump Replacement (Brute force won out)

Hi,

I'm trying to remove my baitwell pump from the bronze thru-hull and it does not want to budge. I'm installing one with a by-pass for the wash-down supply line.
Does anyone know what the black sealant at the connection might be and if there's a easier way to get it to let go besides brute force? Some kind of solvent, etc.

Hmm, I wonder if its black 5200? Some heat might help, but be careful in there.

Boater's World carries a product called Anti-Bond that supposedly softens 5200. It comes in a small spray can. I would get that and after cutting off everything (sealant) you can get to, spray it down real good and let it sit for a while.

If you're discarding the pump, brute force it right off of there. If it breaks, just dig out the pieces.

Have you tried putting an oil filter wrench around it?

Brute force won out. I got a large strap wrench, the biggest handle I could fit in the hole and worked it free.

That sealent held on well.
I just wish I knew what it was so I could use it on the new pump.

There's really no need. Just use some teflon tape (or paste).
