A friend of mine told me he uses Bar Keeper's solution on his
frady White to clean off scum and stains from his unpainted hull after being in the water. We're from the western pamlico sound in nc and there is alot of tanin in the water from the swamps, which stain a very tough tea colored stain on white hulls. He says the Bar Keeper's solution works great, and does not harm the gel coat. Anybody have any experience with this stuff?

I use it to clean all my nonskid works awesome. Some might find it abrasive as you get it in a powder form then it turns into a paste when mixed with water as youre cleaning. But I havent found anything that cleans as well on rust or any leaf stains as this product. I thought I heard someone say they found it in a gel form. I buy it at home depot very cheap too.

I have been using it on my topsides but just a few weeks ago used it just above the water line. I wasnt too thrilled with the results. My nice shiney gel coat that I worked up to a nice mirror finish was scratchy and dull in the areas I hit with the BKF. I started polishing and waxing over this past week end. It certainly does a great job taking marks off the boat but just be sure to do a test spot if it is any place that may show signs of scrubbing when you are done.
