I am going to strip the bottom paint from my 04 2520 and I want to know if applying a barrier coat is neccessary

I just went through this process in the spring '08.

The hull is a '99 though. You'll get a 50-50, for and against, I opted to do it figuring what the heck, couldn't hurt. I put on 4 coats of epoxy barrier coat before I started the bottom paint, just make sure of one thing......
follow the instructions to the letter. With all the work involved, be sure to do it correctly or it will turn into even more work down the road.
The hardest part was by far cleaning and prepping the bottom once the paint was gone. My back and arms still ache

You can wait as long as 2 weeks between coats of Interprotect barrier coat per the directions on the can. I did gray-white, gray-white so I could see where I was working more easily. Between the last coat of barrier and the first coat of bottom paint, have at least 1 more guy, ideally two with you. You don't have much time to work depending on the weather and air temp. I had one guy for each side and one guy doing the "finger print" test. I was extremely happy with the results.

Feel free to email me with any questions....
