Just what is this barrier coat? I assume it is a paint on, and it protects against water intrusion???? Does it work, does it last, or is it snake oil??

Think of an epoxy barrier coat as a primer for your bottom paint.
Yes. Properly prepared and applied, a barrier coat is a good thing.

I did my 2520 2 years ago, it was a ton of work, but worth it in my opinion. I could not get paint to stick anymore and I suspected it was never prepped properly. Had the bottom soda blasted, then I spent a few weeks doing the barrier coat and paint. Came out great.

So the barrier coat is just a surface preparation; it is not a barrier to anything such as water intrusion (thinking blisters here)? The bottom paint, is this anti-fouling paint or something else?
I'm just learning here, thank you.

Only from the 'outside'. Osmotic blistering can still occur on the 'inside', such as in the bilge (standing water) and/or sealed compartments (due to condensation).

That said, I do not believe that this would ever, EVER be an issue with such a well made boat as a Parker :) !

Is it advisable to put a barrier coat on a new boat? Thanks again for the information guys.
