My new 21SE does not have rod racks under the gunnels or on the console. It only has 4 rod holders mounted in the tops of the gunnels, and I don't want to run with the rods there.

For under the gunnels, I have seen pictures what Parker installs standard. I'm not a fan of the solid ring. Has anyone installed anything they were happy with?

For on the side of the console, what have you bought or built and where did you mount it?

Pics are always helpful.

Thanks for the advice.

My Dusky CC had rod holders mounted to the side of the center console.
They had plastic tubes and a starboard frame, the kind you can find in any West Marine or similar marine supply store.

Thanks for the responses. I think I solved the under-gunnel issue this weekend. My brother and I took a trace of the under gunnel racks on the Steiger we both own this weekend and will fashion something similar out of starboard. Only difference is that, because the Parker is not as deep, the racks will only hold 2 rods, not 3.

Brad, I was looking at the possibility of mounting something on the back of the live well, but was worried it might be something I keep banging my shin into. Do you find that the rod racks get in the way there?

I never feel like the rod racks are in the way when using the livewell or just walking around in back. The Birdsall Marine products are nice and look like factory installed options. My previous boat was a 20ft Mako, so the Parker feels very roomy with the extra beam/general layout. I can send you some pics if that would help.

Brad,

some pics would be great. My e-mail address is my user name on this board with @verizon.net added to it.

I wasn't a big fan of the rings either so I removed them as well as the toe-boards. I used the toe-board material to fabricate 4 "hooks" about 8" long. I fastened them to the thwarts wher the lower rings were and I can lay up to 3 rods on each "hook". I keep the rods secured by pulling bungee cords over them and tucking the bungee (which is permanently fastened on the outboard edge) into slots cut under the inboard edges of each hook. I store my crab and fish nets on my STBD side and a few rods on the PORT.

I am setting up rod racks in my CC. Removed rings and toe boards, and sett up fly rod racks on one side to carry 9' fly rods with 3' PVC tubes to protect the tips. By staggering the rod holders I can fit 3 fly rods under the gunnel on one side. Other side is for conventional/spinning rods and this will allow 2 spinning rods under the gunnel on the opposite side.

My bait tank/leaning post will facilitate two rods vertical in the holders. There are two additional rod holders on the windshield frame.

I will post pictures later this week on my thread under the projects section.
