The "new" Garmin gmr 18 radar, 4kw, 36 mile range, 5d vert beam was $1199, now $759 at my local Boater World. Making room for the new "HD" radars. GSD22 was $499, now $419.

Raymarine discounts, Lowarance etc.,

Their new catalogue came out yesterday. Reduced Prices not shown. Gotta call.

I was told that the GMR18 is going to only be available for another 8 weeks or so. It was a low cost radar to gain market share. It will be replaced with the HD which will be priced in line with the rest of the market. In other words.... Get the GMR18 while you can..

get it at http://www.boemarine.com

Yep. Not sure what you really get with "HD" radar. Could be just a big marketing ploy but the gmr18 will be available in "HD".

I am getting myself worked up to get auto pilot and, of course, to make AP effective you need radar. (Working on the pitch to the admiral).

Anyway, I guess I am going to wait and see what the new garmin AP looks like. I know it's $1200 and coming out in late summer. I kinda like the simplicity of the RM S1000 but gonna wait.
