About 3 years ago I noticed brown slivers of what was plywood and discolored water coming out of my low vents in the after- production installed casting platform on my 2007 23se. Upon inspection, I saw the bulkhead wall plywood that was covered in a coat of paint had rotted, and was failing. I removed the vertical hatch, and removed all vertical plywood ,replacing it with starboard material. Concerned about vertical strength, I added strips of corion vertically in 4 places, including though bolting it on the sides of the replaced vertical hatch. The damage to the platform showed up the next year as soft spots. Before this season, I ordered a hatch for the platform, and cut open the deck to fit. The ply's had sepperated, and the strength was deminished. I got the large syringes (offered at feed and grain stores to help feed baby lambs), and some aquarium tubing that fit on well. I shot premixed 2 part epoxy into the individual layers, and clamped them overnight. Next time filling the open ply's, and clamping. After everything was solid for about 15"in each direction, I epoxied the end-grain to block more water intrusion. I can walk on the platform, but there are more soft spots that will continue to bother me.
My thought is to cut out the entire platform, and grind thru the roving that held the platform in place. and have a local fiberglass guru apply new gel coat inside the hull. I think a 3 or 4 ft cooler would contain my PFD's, sea anchor, travel dock lines, etc. as I am having a hard time to find a short coffin box. Anybody solve this problem in the past? I would like to hear any input. Thank you, Papa
