In Salem, mariners on the boat Perseverance pulled a Lynn man from his capsized dinghy.

The rescue happened on the south end of Winter Island mooring field, approximately 500 yards from shore, according to the harbormaster's incident report. Assistant Harbormasters Phil Reddy and Steve Levesque responded to the scene after hearing calls for help at 2:45 p.m., the report said. Two men from the boat Perseverance pulled the overboard boater, John B. Mendonca, 45, out of the 55-degree water and onto their boat, the report said.

The harbormasters took the man, who was "shivering uncontrollably," onto their boat. They said they gave him a coat to warm up. Mendonca declined medical attention. The harbormasters recovered two oars and righted the capsized dinghy and towed it back to Winter Island docks. The harbormaster said the boat Perseverance is owned by John 'CBIGMA' of Danvers, MA.

Good job on being close at hand, knowing what to do, and having the right boat to do it in 8) :D
Now you can put a couple of "life jacket" decals on the side of the pilothouse indicating ya brought 'em back alive
Again, here's to ya brother

Good job John, still cold water so far this year.

I go on other people's boats at times and many of them don't run their VHF.

This was a classic case of "The right place at the right time". And also a sobering reminder that circumstances can change in an instant on the water. Stay safe out there guys.
