I pulled the vinyl windows off the boat yesterday as I was waxing the top-sides. Rolled them up and brought them home to clean and polish.

A couple of them have scuff marks from the flyrod holders I had mounted a couple of years back. I've since corrected the installation of the flyrod holders so they don't touch the windows, but I'm left with scuff marks that I'd like to polish out if possible.

In the past, I've kept them polished with "Pledge" down through the years, and that has worked ok for protecting, but it won't remove any light scraching or rub marks.

After washing and drying, can I polish them with the same one-step boat wax (it has a bit of mild buffing compound in it)? If not, what would you recommend?

IMHO you should NOT use anything on them but goops designed for them. I had great luck with the 2-part system (cleaner = #17 and polish = #10) from Meguiars. The cleaner comes out like olive drab/brown kitty poo, but it does a great job removing scuff marks and the like. Then use the polish.

They also make a 1-part cleaner/polisher spray that was handy to have on board for fast touch-up, i.e., after being soaked by salt spray. But it alone would be useless, IMHO, without the prep work base established by the 2-part system.

I've gotten great results from the 210 Scratch Remover and 210 Polish just by following the instructions on the bottles.

Dale and GW,

Thanks for the tips.

I went looking for a 2-step product, either Mequires or 210. Found only the 210 and 210+ at the local Boater's World. Came home with the 210 and went to work Put the 210+ on with a Porter Cable variable speed 6" buffer on low speed. Wiped that off with a terrycloth towel, then applied the 210.

Man, what a difference!!!! They look new!!!! I am a believer!!!!

Thank you CP

This site is GREAT!!!!

After seeing what this two-step 210 stuff did to my hazy, scuffed clear vinyl, I'm not going to look for any other product in the future.

I believe the 210 cleaner/protector is similar to Plexus. It is the 210+ mild polish that was very impressive when it came to buffing out the scuff marks.

I'm a believer in the two-step approach, and this 210 stuff is the cat's meow.
