Hi All,

I thought I'd throw this one out to the Parker community to see if anyone has tackled this project. Last year I bought an 18 ft Parker center console, which I've been using for saltwater fly fishing.

When the bow angler is casting in waves, he typically braces his knee against the front coaming (see picture). Obviously, this would be a lot more comfortable if there was a coaming pad around the front (red arrows). Has anyone done something like this?

I contacted Coastal Canvas, one of the Parker suppliers, and they said that because of the curve, I'd need to find a local canvas shop that would heat form a PVC backing board to the proper curve before attaching the pad. Can anyone recommend a shop that can do this in the New York City/NJ/CT area?

Thanks for your tips and ideas. Wish spring would hurry up.

buy a 1/4 piece of star board cut it to the height minus an 1.25"

take a regular hand held torch propane/butane and gently pass it back and forth get it pretty warm/hot then put it right into position and tape it in place it will cool off pretty quick .....then pm me ill send u to a guy in Lindenhurst he is awesome and cheap.....

Look at my post on coaming pads http://classicparker.com/phpBB2/viewtop ... highlight=

Hi RN,

Thanks for the advice and your link. I'll have to clear the snow off the boat to take measurements. In the meantime, I did some searching on the internets and found this:

The text claims this coaming pad is flexible so, if the length works out, I might buy one and attach it with 3M Dual Lock fasteners to avoid drilling holes. Because I fly fish, my main goal is to avoid objects that will snag fly lines (I have pop-up cleats and a pop-up bow light.) So I'll probably have to experiment.

BTW, one of these days I'd like to make it out your way. I spent my first summer with my Parker (last year) fishing the NY Bight (Breezy Point to Sandy Hook, NJ). Getting out further east is one of my eventual goals, but trailering the boat through NYC does give me pause.

Regards,
