I installed my new coaming pads today and it was much easier with the "Template" they sent along with the pads. It is not much more than a piece of paper you tape in place and then drill your holes.
The problem with the project was that the hooks they send you are for hanging the pads on but you can easily lift them up. I was afraid that they might fall off if I hit a bump out on the water. I called Micheal at Coastal Canvas and he solved the problem with ease. There are 3 ways of doing it, the first is to put a small screw in from the back side of the gunnel which I did not like the idea of because of the possibility of going into the pad too far. The second was that you hang the pads and then put a small screwq up thru the weep hole in the bottom of the pad and into the gunnel. The third way is to stick velcro to the back of the pad mounting board. These will stop the cushion from falling off while fighting a fish but still can be removed if needed. I also ordered two small pads to continue the pad all the way to the corner. I was not able to take any pictures today but I will the first chance I get. The folks at Coastal Canvas are great to work with. How often do you see this? They send you the pads and the bill is in the box, in this economy it's alway's "Show me the Money" first,I find that to be outstanding customer service

I just went through the same thing. The dealer installed the pads on the hooks for me, but they were always coming off. I opted for the screw from the back of the gunnel through the fiberglass into the backing of the pad method. I used two #10 x 3/4" SS panhead screws and #10x 9/16 SS flat washers to hold them in place. I first used a 3/8" long screw but it was just enough to poke through the fiberglass and just barely into the plastic backing of the coaming pads. The pads would pop off the screws with a little bit of pressure. The 9/16" went all the way into the plastic backing and after installing them, I put as much pressure as I could to the front of the pads and couldn't feel any sharp screw tips poking out.
