Sorry CC guys I just wanted to note how comfortable it is to own a pilothouse this time of year. I have been so appreciative of the layout this past fall. I have been able to fish what would normally be uncomfortable weather very comfortably the last few weeks. I have left the dock on a few trips where it has been below freezing and a bit breezy. With a little propane heater and area out of the wind and spary, it has provided enjoyable days on the water where I have even been comfortable enough to take my 8 year old son. Heck i have had a crew of up to 5 out of the weather comfortably. I just wanted to brag and rub it in to the guys who have to freeze to death to catch a fish this time of year :p

Here are a few shots of us running when the air temp was in the upper 30's and the water in the low 40's. We were warm and dry making 22+mph in a steep 2'-3' chop on the bay in a small craft advisory due to high winds :D

We pilothouse owners deal a little better with the cold than our CC brothers do.

What! Your kidding me right?
Now I know it gets DANG cold where most of you folks that boat back east are from.
One of THE MOST IMPORTANT things that my better half had to have was a FULL enclosure, not Isenglass, but windows ,and fiberglass!
Now I know it doesn't get get to freezing,BUT we do have a wind chill facter " yea right '' but I can say this, after diving for 2-3 dives in 54 degree water for about an hour at a time, you WANT that FULL HOUSE on your way home when it starts to blow 15-20knts in the afternoon, and yes I DO have that heater!

No offence to my CC brethern.
MJ.

I have surfed a few contests in SoCal back in the day... and I can attest that they have some COLD water, even in the warmest time of the year!

A pilothouse is a glass-enclosed room on top of the texas (the deckhouse) from which a ship is controlled. The steering wheel, compass, engine order telegraph, and chart table are located here. On many ships, especially military and cruise ships, the pilothouse is considerably larger and combined with a number of other control structures as the ship's bridge.

that boats a pilothouse?????

Just don't fall in (even with a life vest on).

yea, thats the common terminology for the area with the controls and helm seats, or in my case bench seats and tables, in boats like the sportcabins. the v-berth area is the "cabin". the pilothouse is also known as the wheelhouse or just the house.
