I'd be interested in hearing from anyone that has a seasonal checklist of any type. It could be related to boat maintenance, tackle organization, safety equipment, whatever.

I always pick up helpful tips!

If I kept a list, it would actually have to be multiple lists.

A list for spring cleaning, and getting ready for spring trolling season.

A list for removing the trolling gear and replacing it with bottom fishing gear for the summer croaker run. This is about the same time I need another list for cleaning the hull, doing gelcoat repair, and waxing.

A list for removing the bottom fishing gear and replacing it with light tackle jigging and fly fishing gear.

A list for uploading and downloading the gear necessary to sleep on the boat overnight.

A list for preparing for cold weather and hypothermia at the CBBT.

A list for stripping the boat and turning it in for annual service.

And ... start it all over again.

Question: how often do you find you need to paint the bottom?
Simple ... depends HIGHLY on the paint used! There are multi-season (read: expen$ive, ~$250/gal) ablative paints that are alleged to be truly multi-season.

I paint mine every season with an ablative costing around $110/gallon, and it only takes 1/3rd to 1/2-gallon each season. Every year I threaten to go to a "Carolina Coat" where I'd put ablative on the waterline down to 1' into the bottom, and from then on down to the bottom 'V' it would be a hard epoxy paint.

But, if any bottom paint gets back to showing bare hull, I sand, then solvent wash, and then paint that immediate area with a contrasting color hard epoxy paint that is compatible with the 'other color' ablative I'll throw on top. So whenever I see red paint showing up under the black paint, I know my ablative bottom paint is 'thin' in that area.

Now, for checklists ... I make up a Word doc like below ... but must have had my 2008 season checklist on my work PC. I'll also add what I need to buy.

I have a to-do list every year.
It gets made up thru the boating season as stuff wears and I get bright ideas of improvements I'd like to make.
If it doesn't mar the operation or safety of the vessel it gets put off till winter layup.
This year the list is like 20 items long....some small (replace trim tab zincs), some major (install forward bilge pump, which require cutting a hole in the cabin floor). Some are purely cosmetic (sand and reseal teak handrails), while others are major maintenance (replace engine water pump assembly).
Gives me something to do while the boats on the hard January thru mid-March.
