Does anyone have a bilge pump in their forward compartment?

I have an 800 gph bilge pump that is accessible under a pie plate just to the center of the helm and before the "step" into the berth on my 2320. The exhaust hose exits forward through a hole that goes into the under-berth compartment on the starboard side, then out a 1" through-hull that is just barely above the water line on the starboard side. I can't figure out whether it is factory or not, but there is a glassed-in mounting pad where the pump and float switch are mounted, so I suspect it is.

My question regards the routing of the exhaust hose. During my current re-wiring project, I found a crack in the black corrugated bilge hose so I am replacing it. Originally it came up through the bulkhead into the compartment below the starboard berth cushions and then perplexingly, up through a 6" round hatch (no pie plate in place) to make a 6" loop, then back down below the compartment and out through the through-hull.

Needless to say, having that loop of bilge hose poking up through the berth bench looks ridiculous, but since it eventually exits so close to the waterline, some sort of back-flow prevention is needed.

If you have a bilge pump mounted up front, I am curious to know how the exhaust hose is routed?

Is there a better back-flow prevention method than a loop of hose that comes up above the waterline?

I'd like to replace the corrugated hose with smooth wall hose, but I am afraid that trying to make this loop with smooth wall hose will cause a kink...

Any suggestions would be welcome - thanks!

Yes I have a forward bilge located in the pilot house floor. The hose is routed through the forward bulk head and is accessible via the hatch in the forward V berth. I had that forward through hull fail on me this summer, if yours is plastic be sure to check it.
My discharge hose has a loop in it.

Thanks Mike - where is the high loop located? It sure seems funky the way mine was setup. Very "jerry-rigged" looking

Mine looks like this in the Stbd forward locker. Got to clean the mold there.

Bryan, is that inside the cabinet that the cushions sit on top of? (the plywood on top is the level of the berth cushion area) If so, it looks like you have a LOT more volume in there than I do!

My through-hull is bronze, at least, thank goodness (one less thing to change out while I'm in the midst of this project!)

Mine is the same way that Bryans is (minus the mold  ). I have a hatch in the starboard v berth bunk that gives me access to it.

Yes. I guess that is the difference between the 23 and 25.

Just Douche it down with this.

Here's what mine looks like in the 2320. There is only about 3" clearance between the through hull and the bunk top, so the loop was up like this, but smaller. How high above the through-hull should the loop be?

The size of that pix blew my screen out. LOL

I just needs to be shortened and make a riser loop in it.

Oops! I did that from my iPhone and didn't realize Photobucket was set for max size. I fixed it now that I'm in front of my computer. :)

Any way, how high above the through-hull? I have about 3" underneath that hatch - would a tiny loop that is only about 2" above the through-hull be good enough? That way I could hide it under the pie plate and clean up the way it looks! The way it is pictured more or less duplicates the way it was before I replaced it. Except that the ridiculous loop was tied up with a series of cable ties and screws.

So the hose has been sticking out the whole time???
I dont have that pie plate access in my 2320, I just have the big hatch with ample room in there. Like wart said just shorten the hose all you need is a small loop and you will be good.

I did NOT have a forward bilge pump under the helm in my '90 25 MVSC and since that is the lowest part of keel, it would accumulate approx. 15 gal. of water (rainwater). With the help of Parker engineering, they sent me photos on how to run the electrical, place the pump and the hose in that little compartment ( I installed the access plate in the helm and in the cabin. BUT I have seen the thru hull on many boats low down near the water line so I placed the thru hull six inches above where it is place by the factory. Never a problem (drilling thru the stringers and getting the hoses and wiring to cooperate was hard work).
Because the thru hull was well above the water line I did not need the "loop" and never had a problem with water enterring the boat thru the thru hull.
