Someone told me that if you didnt use ring free from the beginning, its not going to do anything for you now? Is that true

If you have not been using it from the beginning, you may want to consider a shock treatment (described on the bottle). After that, it is 1 ounce for every 10 gallons. I prefer to use ring free as maintenance with every fill up. I also decarb my motor (OX66 especially with the oxygen sensor) once a season or every 50 hours using what has become to be known as the "Dunk method" (named after a well known marine surveyor from Jersey). Here are the details:

When I bought my boat, the previous owner had never used RingFree either.
The O2 sensor was shot (OX66) and the motor was heavily carboned...

After performing a decarbon using the "Dunk method", I now treat every fuel fill-up with the 'maintenance load' (1 oz of RingFree per 10 gallons of fuel) of RingFree.

Problem solved.

We run a 150 HPDI and an E-Tec. The HPDI gets Yammylube (2M), regular gas and Ring Free. The E-Tec gets XD100 (very expensive 100% synthetic oil) and regular gas. The HPDI runs unquestionably cleaner than the E-Tec.

Bottom line - Ring Free WORKS.

Thanks Nick for the visual comparison. Nice to know we're not just shelling out the dough for "mousemilk". Now if it would 'stabilize' the gas in the tank . . .

The pictures remind me of taking delivery of the boat. Used the head located off the shop and saw all those V6 powerheads lined up on benches. They all looked like the inside of your Etec's hub.

For that, use StarTron. It has the stabilizer as well as the carbon cleaning element.

I use both Ringfree and StarTron for that very reason.

Thanks Megabyte for the words of wisdom. I wish I could say my boat gets used enough year round so I don't need Startron.

Anybody ever used StaBil or other brand of stabilizer.
