Today I smelled a lot of fuel in the bilge. I poked around and it appears that the leak is coming from the top of the tank at the sending unit. It looks like the gasket has disintegrated and fuel is leaking out of it as it expands. The unit still reads, so I assume that it still works. Can I just replace the gasket by making a new one with some gasket material, or do I need to buy a special gasket, or should I replace the entire unit?

Thanks,

If the sender still works you just need a gasket.

I'd recomend getting an original equipment gasket and not making one.

It is possible to make one but if it leaks while you're on plane and fills the bilge with gas...pow!

If the bilge pump comes on and the bilge is full of fuel you'll wish you paid for an orginal equipment gasket.

Call the folks at Parker and ask them where you can get one, they might even have on handy and can send it to you.

Take VERY special care to be sure you don't stip those fine/soft metal screws. It is very easy to do.
