Hello everyone. First off Thank You to all the veterans out there.

My question is regarding the gas vent on my 2110. I was cleaning the boat today and I noticed that the vent cap unscrews, so I unscrewed it and found that the inside is coated in a white crusty substance any idea what it could be ? Should I scrape it out? It is on the outside of the screen that is in there.

Also how tight should the cap be?

Thanks
Mike

It's encrusted salt ...

Soak in water or water with some vinegar in it, then a soft brush or brush that won't damage the screen could be used.

Tight enough to stay secure, but not tight enough to break! If it were mine, I'd apply a thin blob of heavy marine grease to help prevent it from corroding in place, but the heavy grease helps prevent it from loosening. You'll see all over CP where I recommend that "Triple Guard" grease, see here.

Or...spray it with "Salt Away" every once in a while.

I keep a bottle mixed up and I'm using it more and more on reels and the aluminum tubing holding up the hardtop. Great stuff.

Not to point out the obvious, but make sure to disconnect the vent assembly from the vent line before using any chemical/water/vinegar to clean it.. you don't want any of this stuff washing back into the gas tank.
