I was the unfortunate recipient of a knock at the dock this past weekend and the gel coat was chipped on the port/stern corner just about the swim ladder. As you can see in the pictures, the chip exposed the fiber. The chip is about the size of a quarter. Will this require being sealed, built up with resin and then gel coated or can this be gel coated with a fiber adder? I know the rough edges will need to be chamfered before repair and I can get Parker gel coat from the local dealer.

Pretty easy repair. Get some gelcoat, tape it off and sand and feather the hole. Apply several layers of gelcoat making sure to sand lightly and wipe with acetone. Once you have it built up to the other level use progressively finer wetsand paper to about 1600 grit to get it even. Then compound and finesse it and finish with a good wax.
