looking to buy a gps/chartplotter/and fishfinder would like some info on what is a good one , need gps and fishfinder all in one combo thanks

There are so many out there to choose from. My suggestion would be to first decide how much you want to spend. I would then get some catalogs or go to web sites and start looking at all the different options. I really like the new Lowrance HD with the structure scan.

I use a Stanard Horizion CP180. Last year it was just a chartplotter/gps and worked fine. I just added the fish-finder to it but haven't tried it out yet. I just installed it last week.

I will recommend BOEmarine.com. There is a gentleman named Jim there who will help you out with anything you need. They have good prices and great service.

Good luck..

+1 for Jim @ BOE Marine.

I use a Garmin 478. It's portable so you can take it into the house/motel room, talks directions in the car, and is a display for the sounder. If you're not looking for a 'full size' unit, you can't beat it. Nothing else to buy, contains all NOAA charts, all roads and cables and wires and mounts for car and boat.

i own garmin, my dad owns raymarine and I would recommend the new lowrance HDS packages. All I can say is wow! Structure scan and broadband radar are unique to Navico companies too.

Is this a current model?
Or is there a newer model?

There is a newer model (touch screen without buttons), but it doesn't support the sounder display.

The 478 will take additional maps on a Garmin card. I have all the inland lakes on my card, in addition to the built in NOAA charts and roads. This is nice because in the car, when you see a body of water you can switch to the Marine mode and see if the lake is 'boatable', and while on the water you can switch to Road mode to get a feel for where you are on the roadmap (my wife likes to know what cities and roads we're near?).

I lied about nothing else to buy if you want depth; for that you'll need a GSD unit and 'ducer.

This is just one of the many display modes (the size of each pane is adjustable). We don't fish so I usually just have the depth numerals and GPS info in that panel (waypoint next, distance to next, course arrow etc.)

I also have a cheapo second sounder, not that it's really necessary, but it's convenient to have one sounder alarm at a warning depth (+/-10') and the other at a danger depth (2'), that way when we get to exploring shallow water I don't have to reset the deep alarm.
