While I was in the process of installing another pair of rod holders on my boat...

I spent a good bit of time on my back looking up underneath the washboards.
What I saw did not thrill me.
After years of shrink-wrapped winter storage, several of which was over an hour away at my dealers lot, a lot of mold and grunge had built-up over time.
I have a feeing that my instructions to "vent her well" went unheeded.
In years past, I've sprayed some bleach under the washboards to kill the mold spots, but after getting up close and personal with the underside of the washboards during my project, I decided more definitive action was needed.
I started out by just hosing out the undersides of the washboards.
Holy crap! I couldn't believe the dirt and funk the rolled out onto the deck!
14 years worth, apparently!
Next step was to mix up a bucket of Orange Zep soap and a bit of bleach...
I used a big fluffy car-wash sponge, and washed everything, and everywhere that I could.
Then, I took a spray bottle and mixed a 60/40 solution of bleach and water and sprayed the hell out of everything under there while the soap was still on.
After that, a second sponging with the soap and bleach mixture.
Let everything sit for about 10 minutes, then rinse with clean water.
Any remaining mold spots were hit with the spray bottle again, until the undercarriage was sparkling clean once again.
No photos... but then you would not have wanted to see that mess.
She looks great now though!
So... take a look under those washboards guys. You might be surprised at what you see.
