Hello all, just few questions that some of your senior guys can answer for me,well i have a Raymarine A-65 set up and a transom mount transducer,my problem is that when i get boat up to like 22mph i loose bottom and it blinks and i have to use the chart to see what depth of water i am going through,do you know any transducer that will work with my unit such as a through hull,or would a puck transducer work? I know parkers are wood undernreath any advice or help with this will be great thanks again or if there is easy fix for mine!!!

i know some people have experimented with mounting the transom mount transducer inside the hull using containers of different sorts. the disadvantage with this is that you lose the ability to tell your actual in-water speed as well as water temperature. other than that, i dont know what to tell you, im sure there are transducers but i have the same problem you do, i just learned to live with it :?

Go to the airmar site and use their search feature to see what works for your boat and unit.

I have both a thru hull b60 and shoot thru p79. They both work just fine. If you are at all nervous about cutting a hole in the bottom of your boat (as most sane people would be  ) go with the shoot thru.

Hey thanks for advice and that site pretty good info on there so many different types of units!!! Oh i am fine will drilling a hole i have no worries on that!!!

I had a transom mount transducer on my previous Parker. It was hooked up to a Furuno depth finder. It frequently "lost bottom" at speed. The transducer was properly installed by the dealer, too.

I had a hole drilled in the bottom of my new Parker for the transducer for the Raymarine fishfinder I bought for it. It never loses bottom.

Look into the Airmar model B60-20 thru hull.
It is a 600 watt unit and will be a nice match with the A65 unit that you have.
I use the same ducer on my Furuno and never lose bottom has temp reading but no speed. Those tri ducers that give speed are not at all accurate after a year or anyway.
Just my $0.02 worth.

I have never understood why boaters want to get speed from a transducer when that information is readily available from your GPS for speed over ground and from the Yamaha gauge for speed through the water.

Besides, the moving speed wheel on the transducer is just a source of future problems due to fouling and such.

Believe it or not, in hull or shoot through transducers do give you temperature. It is the temperature of the hull which is determined by what?..........the temperature of the water. That temp won't change instantly but will gradually reflect the surrounding water temp.

...which is a problem, if youre looking for temperature breaks over a very short distance. ideally, you want to be able to pick up a difference in a few degrees over no more than the actual space that it takes for them to change, because that break 9 times out of 10 will produce the best fishing. if you have to wait for the hull to gradually adjust, you may be miles away from the break before you even know about it, if you ever do.

Before you do anythng else try changing the position and angle of the transom mount transducer. A slight change in the depth and/or angle of the transducer may give you the results you want. You should have enough adjustment in the bracket without having to drill new holes.

I would try Burtona's idea first before I invested anymore money.
I have had the same problem before,a few times and adjusting the transducer has always worked for me. You might have to try adjusting
it more than once but eventually it will work.
As far as an accurate speed reading, I would always rely on the GPS
reading over the Yamaha speed guage. That guage is not that accurate.

Well i went to boat today and played around with the transducer, the water was alittle cold at 59 but i jumped in and moved the transducer around alittle up and down and when i finally got back in boat and took it for spin and opened it up i had no problem as of yet but lets see in next few days!!!Well i called Raymarine on this and they said to put someone alittle heavy in back of boat on side of transducer and see if that helps, they said prob. when plaining it pops out of water and if so i need to move it to lower point of transom!!!Well i will keep you all posted and thank you all for your input on this!!!

Burtona i followed ur directions on this as well as others and hope this works!!!

I have a humminbird six beam monstrosity transom mounted on the back of my boat feeding the matrix 3D. only time it ever loses signal is when I'm plaining through the creek with full tabs down at 14mph. the tabs must create turbulence that f's up the signal. Any other time the fishfinder is flawless.

Well thats what happens to me when i am plaining it goes in and out so i guess its commom

Your transducer is mounted too high and is possibly not level with the hull of the boat.
Lay a straightedge lengthwise along the hull and be sure the transducer is level. Next check the height. Depending on manufacterer the flat transducer face should be 1/2 to 3/4 of its thickness below the hull level.
may take some playing around but once it's mounted right you shouldn't have any problems under normal operating conditions.
