I have two, one for live well and one for wash down. Every year one goes bad. They are not cheap. They are mounted so they don't get wet but they still burn out. I must of replaced 6 in 10 years. I did take a few apart and jump the reg. And motor still works. It's that dam pressure reg that's goes bad. I'm thinking to by past it.

Just my opinion but I think it's the saltwater that sits in the head of the pump that causes the pressure valve to fail over time. I close the seacock and pump out any residual saltwater after each trip but the suction will collapse the hose and reduce pressure over time (hose remains in a collapsed form). To eliminate the collapsing of the hose, I installed stainless steel springs from mcmaster-carr between the seacock and the pump (just insert lengths of spring into the hose pump feed). In 14 years I am on only my 2nd washdown pump. Here's the spring:

Never heard about that. Thank you. Marty D

Are you using the hose quick disconnects at the pump and removing the hoses before you store the boat for the Winter??

Leaving hoses attached results in water remaining in the pump and when it freezes the plastic cracks, in the Spring you get to buy a new pump.

Takes less then a minute to disconnect the hoses.....

Yes, I pop hose off and leave the drain vale open all winter. What I'm not using is that round filter. I never had a clog.

A diagram pump aka washdown pump is not the pump you want for the livewell.

You want a centrifugal pump......preferable a dual port pump.

This is the pump I use all the time... Never had any problems. Note the 2nd port. That is where you hook a hose to go to the washdown pump..

A lot of manufactures use " SureFlow" pumps...... I call them "No Flow" due to their failure rate.

I only use Jabsco Parmax series and they have the Hotshot series that I'm running on this boat.

Improper mounting of the washdown pump can limit it's life also. [Read the directions]

That's sounds right. Will look into that. I do buy that brand and I do order live well pump. Get the wash down pump. They look the same to me.

That's the one I buy. I have like 4 of those black n orange handle. I don't use the round inline filter. I bet that's why they burn out

LOL...... Why not the filter? I'd call that not using Common Sense..... Sorry..... Call it as I see it.

They include the filter ! .....It's actually different than the way they use to be , put in line in the hose.

They are still inline, but it actually mounts on the pumps intake port.
