Hello,
I found an oil leak on my engine today. When I arrived home I noticed oil running down the lower half of my engine. I removed the upper cowl and found oil coming from the air intake opening. Anyone ever have this happen before? Engine is a 2001 150 HPDI.

If you take a look at the engine mounted oil tank, there is a small overflow hose that comes off the back and then feeds into the backside of the air intake cover. Check the level of the oil in the engine mounted tank - there is a chance that it either overflowed or a bit of excess oil made its way into the overflow hose and worked its way out - possibly from the engine being tilted up/down. If that is the case and its just a small amount of oil, I don't think its anything to worry about. Fairly common on my non-HPDI Yamaha.

If its a lot of oil, than something is definitely not right. Again, check the level of the engine mounted tank, it is possible that the switches that control when oil is pumped in from the remote tank aren't working properly and the tank is constantly being overflowed. However, if this were the case your engine would be smoking like crazy and you would have a lot more oil accumulating and draining out the bottom of the cowling.
