Is anyone running a hydraulic jack plate, either T-H Marine Atlas or Bob’s on a 23SE? Since the 23SE is a bay/inshore boat and I run the bay and shallow water considerably, I’m interested in adding one to my boat. Comments on performance and experiences are greatly appreciated...Thanks.

I've had 2 of Bob's... 2 different boats.....Very nice machining....However...The HPU is a bought somewhere item....Before you install it.....Change EVERY wire connector. They are all cheap automotive ends....IE: Open Barrel that lets moisture and corrosion in. Had them on smaller boat....Its nice to trailer with the engine straight up , no tilting.

With the engine not tilted you have better control.....It's a easy way to cavitate your engine, with to much throttle. Your not going to be hauling Ass with the engine raised.

Thanks for the heads up about the connectors.

My primary reason for installing a jack plate is to get into and out of shallow areas and cross sand bars at all tide stages.

If I raise the motor with the jack plate and keep the motor tilted down as much as possible so the prop and skeg are submerged and even with the keel of the boat clearing the bottom...I feel the prop will bite and the boat will steer better than if it was tilted up and at an angle to the bottom. I’m only looking to be in gear 1k RPM’s or so and travel slowly over the bars to my next cut.

I understand there are other benefits but I’m not too concerned with hole shots and performance with the 23SE.

I would also like to hear from some folks about how much water you are actually drafting and how shallow you’re able to travel slowly in with your 23SE? I understand everyone’s boat weights are different, just trying to get a feel and some feedback. Thanks all.

That is the perfect senerio for the jackplate and how I used mine. 12in depth.
