I've been using the state police boat ramp in Point Pleasant to launch my 21 SE. Its a sandy/gravelly beach and its starting to put some wear and tear on the keel of the boat. I want to put a keel guard on so that i can beach w/o worry. So any suggestions on where i can get a metal keel guard for a 21 SE? and do i need to strip the bottom paint? Can i just glue it on right on top of the paint? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Mike

Thought i'd post a few pics of the install. the first is after carefully sanding off the bottom paint on one side followed by a couple pics of the finished install. I sanded w/ 100 grit using a variable speed orbital sander on low speed. the keel guard kit says not to use anything heavier than 180 grit but they are not accounting for removing the paint so i just tried to be careful and keep the sander moving w/ light pressure and not take any more off then was necessary to just remove the paint and leave a clean surface. I then cleaned w/ a dry terry cloth rag to remove any dust and three or four times w/ acetone to remove any film and oils. then i applied the primer and finally just peel and stick making sure to keep it centered on the keel. other than the paint removal the isntall was a snap. i still need to re-apply the bottom paint around the guard this coming weekend.

Clean install ! 8)
Thanks Megabyte, in retrospect I think I would've liked to run the guard a few inches further toward to bow. But I don't think it will be an issue. It will definitely protect the keel when beaching. I just hope that the leading edge is above the waterline when running on plane.
