We need some advice on the installation of a vhf radio, gps and fish finder in the electronics box of our 2004 23 SE. It seems to me that, given the placement of the mic on the radio and the fact that its holder needs to be attached to the side of the box, the radio should go on the left, the gps in the middle and the fish finder on the right. The antenna would be mounted on the left side of the grab rail. Placing the gps in the middle would allow me and my fishing buddy to see the gps at the same time.
My question relates to the placement of the radio about 10" below the compass, which is mounted on top of the sport console. The installation instructions for the radio suggest that it be kept away from the compass. As a test, I placed the radio beneath the compass where it would be mounted. There was no movement of the compass. When I picked up the radio and moved it up to and to the side of the compass, the dial moved, but only slightly. My question is whether the radio, when turned on, would affect the compass more.
This was not an issue in our 2001 21 SE because we mounted the radio in the small box beneath the steering wheel. We put the gps and fish finder on top of the console.
Thanks in advance for the advice. This is my first post and I'm sure it will not be my last.
