I completed my boaters safety course Saturday night so I was anxious to spend a bit of time on the water Sunday learning my boat.

The boat still needs a good bit of work (more asthetic than anything) but I decided to drop it in the water so I can free up the trailer for some work.

Put out from Golden Beach (Patuxent River in MD) and learn the ins/outs of the boat with the help of my brothers father in law. He is a long time boater and knows FAR more than I do about the basics and more importantly the water around this place (he owns a "weekend" house on the water).

First catch was the kill switch. With no "owners manual" (for lack of a better term), I wasn't quite sure how everything fit together but after a few minutes - we got it figured out and running.

I QUICKLY figured out that this boat doesn't turn like others I've operated. Granted they were I/O motors on more of a sport-type platform. Turning right is tough (doesn't react very quick) while left is much easier. I assume due to the rotation of the propeller, etc.

After spending some time on docking (wind was up) and learning some tricks to make this an easier process, we headed out to more open waters and learned how she handled at speed.

First off, this E-rude motor is fantastic. Very responsive and good power. We had her up to 44mph (per GPS) at one point and she cut through the water with no problem at all.

Everything seemed quite sturdy and solid. The new seats will be a blessing when I finally put them in and the need for a beverage holder was very evident.

I did notice a couple of guages didn't work so they will need replacement. Neither the "trim" (if that is the right term) guage or the temp guage worked. Hopefully finding a replacement and wiring them up won't be too difficult.

Decided to join up with the rest of the family and make a run down river to Sea Breeze - a little waterfront bar/tiki bar - for a quick bite. Got stuck there for a bit as a nasty storm was brewing. Ultimately it skirted just past us with nothing but a bunch of wind.

While checking my dock lines - I noticed a boat which was damn near my twin. Same CC/Walk Around Parker. It had a hard top with an E-rude engine. It could have been another 2110 - or maybe a 2310. It looked identical other than the hard top addition. The name on it was something "Hokie" in VT colors. I didn't get a chance to see the owner but I thought the name looked familiar from one of these boards. Good to know what my boat will look like when complete.

After the storm passed - we headed home full bore and she was a champ. After getting a feel for the controls, I was quite impressed in how she ran.

I can't wait til this weekend to get a few more hours under my belt.

Thanks to all of you who have helped entertain all my newb questions. I am sure there will be plenty more!

Will congrats on your new baby! Get use to that feeling as with a Parker every time to the dock feels like your first time out. I swear the boat makes me feel younger as well :)

All the best of luck with her.
