I'm taking the wife to Newport for New Years eve and the following days after, any one in the area want to meet for a Barley Pop (as Megabyte says)???

Going to the Gas Lamp Grill for New Years Eve.

Anyone. :?:

Bryan, I am up in Warwick. Let us know your planned itinerary. Might be able to get hooked up on the Westbay side of the "mainland" for that legal adult beverage and some Parker talk.

When in Newport, it is interesting to see some of the history that built this great country. One of the big attractions are the Mansions of Newport

This link should provide you with the info. My recommendations to you and the Admiral would be Marble House(top of the list) and The Breakers. I think you can get a special ticket price to see the Breakers and one other (Marble House). Plan on spending 4 - 5 hrs with this to take it all in.

One of the things that facinated me coming from the mid-west over 25 years ago, was that the start of the Revolutiionary War was not necessarily begun with the Boston Tea Party, as we were taught in school. The locals of Rhode Island had already sunk and burned the British ships, HMS Liberty in Newport, 1769, and HMS Gaspee, 1772, farther up the bay, years prior to Paul Revere's famous ride in 1775. It is not spoken much in print but the facts are there and Rhode Island was the first colony to declare against the King and the last to ratify the Constitution.

This is the link to the City of Newport website that you might find interesting and help you see stuff to do while there.

Now as to getting together... depending if you are going back to the Nutmeg State Sat or Sun, my Admiral works on Sat till 1700 and it takes about 45 min for me to get across the bridges, (even though I have E-Zee pass, I still don't have to show a passport  sorry, local joke)
The Brick Alley Pub springs to mind, http://www.brickalley.com/ though it can get crowded. If you are staying Sat night, we can come down earlier Sun afternoon and give you a quick tour in daylight.

Now I know there are other Parker owners out there in RI and the Cape who could make the treck to the "City by the Sea" for some barley pops, so maybe this should be a thread in the Rendezvous forum, but let's see if there is any intrest. Let me know how you are planning your weekend so I can clear my decks.

Matt,

Not really sure what we are going to do, we have 5 other people going with us so everything is up in the air. Kids are at the in-laws so me and the wife may stay in our hotel room. LOL

My Cell is 860-638-7420 so feel free to give a call if you get over to Newport.

Bryan
