I have a 25se and am using one also. Yes, my clip is rusted but the cable attached to it stays out of the water and hasn't caught my attention as being rusted. My trim tab zincs are also constantly dissolving and I haven't had the grouper zinc on long enough to determine if it's making a difference. I have mine wrapped around a piling with the zinc dangling under water and the other end attached to my "cobra plate" hydrofoil.
A mechanic told me that if the tabs weren't grounded such as mounted through the hull and properly grounded to the electrical system that they are somehow suseptable to excessive corrosion. I asked about their attachment to the actuators but then realized that the point of attachment I believe is non-metallic. I'm not a real genius when it comes to electrical stuff that's not obvious so I'm not sure if his claim is correct although it sounds possible. I'm interested if anyone else here has any input. :?: :roll:
 
Buddah, You attach the clip directly to the engine via your "fin"? Are there any signs of rusting were you attach the clip? Do you think I'm OK attaching it to the engine bolts?
 
The only reason I attach to the fin is because I can more easily reach it when the boat is docked. That is the closest thing that I can reach when on the dock. I believe attaching to the bolts would be fine, the rust I'm seeing is strictly from the cheap steel on the clip itself. I don't see any rust on the cable because my particular on has a plastic sheath covering it, but it may be stainless cable, I'm not sure. You should be good to go. I just wonder if it's doing any good at all though, as I still had dissolving taking place on the tab zincs. :roll:
 
I have the same Grouper Zinc with steel cable, but my cable is also rusting. I talked directly to Yamaha today and they suggested to connect the clip to the bolt just above the lower unit on the Starboard side of the engine (the one several wires are connected to). Connecting the clip to the engine bolts (bracket) might not be a great options because the adhesive/caulking they used on the bolts might not allow a great electrical connection.
