I have a '01 Yami 225ox66, When Im trolling at 5-600 rpm my alarm goes off. When I bring the rpms back up it stops. Idle at the dock at 600 rpms without alarm. Impeller maybe?

2001?

And the waterpump (full service) to include a new impeller AND new thermostats and poppit valves were done .. 'when' ... last? Doing any one of those without the others is a mistake IMHO. Most advice this service every 2-3 seasons, maybe more with many, many hours of use or use in sandy waters.

Replacement of all are easily within the realm of the DIY'r, but I wouldn't advise it without the OEM Factory Service Manual ($50-$70). Do NOT  even waste the time or $$ and consider a Seloc or Clymer 'one size fits all' service manual ... at least in my experience.

That said, Yams are notorious for poppit problems, but they typically serve to open up once past 2K RPMs to allow more water to flow around the head. Another point, those RPMs sound low to me, could be TOO low for effective cooling. OBs do run warmer at lowered RPMs, but I would have guess yours to be 700 in gear, if not more.

Yamaha has OB Owner's Manuals on-line here for free download, but not sure what useable info it gives you for your situation, see here.

Hope this helps! And PLEASE come back and let us know what works! That preserves the historical archives for others in the future :D !

Search on 'poppit' here too ... many posts, most show that a sticky poppit valve causes overheat alarms ...
